Bay Beach Plans
The new Fort Erie Town Council voted unanimously on January 12 to move forward with the Bay Beach Master Plan without further delay. Town staff members are currently preparing an RFP (Request for Proposals) to hire a qualified consultant. The goal is to develop a comprehensive plan for enhancing the Bay Beach Lands in a way that meets the needs of the local residents and businesses as well as the beach-goers. We understand that a report on the proposed RFP will be submitted to Council at their meeting on March 2. After the RFP is approved by Council, it will be announced publicly and consulting firms will be invited to submit proposals. The proposals will be reviewed and scored by staff according to agreed-upon criteria.
We understand that a report with staff's recommendation for the contract award will be submitted to Council in late April or early May for approval. We anticipate that the final winner will have substantial expertise in waterfront projects and the development of master plans. We also expect that the consulting firm will work closely with the local community this summer to reach consensus on the future of the Bay Beach Lands. Please let us know if you're interested in participating in this exciting project!
The funding for this project was secured last year when the Town received a $50,000 grant from the Region's Lakefront Enhancement Strategy program (which will be matched by the Town).
To prepare for the project, the snack bar on Bay Beach was demolished on April 22, 2014 (Earth Day).
